Education

Cerne Valley is fortunate to have its own First School, located in Cerne Abbas. The School caters for children from Early Years to Key Stage 2.

Older children attend schools in Dorchester and Sherborne, just a short distance away.

For adults, courses on a range of subjects are offered in Dorchester by Skills and Learning Dorset.

First School

The Cerne Abbas CE VC First School has served the local community since 1844. The School’s vision is for every child and staff member to be the best they can be. Their Christian values of Friendship, Trust and Peace underpin everything they do. They have close links with the church and were awarded an ‘Outstanding’ assessment from OFSTED in 2011. Even though it is a small school, it is set in lovely grounds with an extensive peace garden for children to use at the rear of the building. The School currently teaches 3 – 9 year olds and it is a feeder school for Dorchester Middle School.

The school also offers before and after school clubs, many educational visits, an excellent range of information technology, a full programme of outdoor education and games (often supported by outside expertise), and a Christian ethos strengthened by links with the church.

Visitors are welcome to come and see the lovely school in action.

If you are considering the school for your child, please do call on 01300 341 319.
